Apple will release a new MacBook Pro lineup next week as the tech giant continues to push hardware with its own custom-built processing chips.
The MacBook Pro laptop computers will be available for preorder on Monday and will be available for purchase on January 24, according to the company. MacBooks begin at $1,999.
Apple’s latest M2 Pro and M2 Max “systems on a chip” will be used in the laptops, which the company claims will provide increased power and efficiency.
“The MacBook Pro with Apple silicon has been a game changer,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in a statement Monday.
Who was Apple’s previous computer chip partner?
Earlier MacBook models were powered by Intel processors. Apple announced plans in 2020 to transition its Mac lineup from computers powered by Intel chips to computers powered by its own “Apple silicon” chips.
What is the speed of the new MacBooks?
The new processing chips provide a significant performance boost over previous MacBook Pro models that used Intel chips.
According to Apple, the MacBook with an M2 Pro chip can process images in Adobe Photoshop 80% faster than the fastest MacBook with an Intel chip. It’s also 40% faster than MacBooks equipped with the previous M1 Pro chip.
The new MacBooks also include the most recent Wi-Fi standard for faster wireless connectivity, as well as an advanced HDMI port for 8K displays.
How much do the new MacBook Pros cost?
They are not inexpensive. The 14-inch M2 Pro model starts at $1,999 but quickly rises in price depending on the chip, screen size, and other factors.
A MacBook Pro with a 16-inch screen, M2 Max chip, and 1 terabyte of SSD storage, for example, costs $3,499. With additional SSD storage and unified memory support, the MacBook costs $6,499.
