The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominations Wednesday, the morning after Steven Spielberg’s coming-of-age drama “The Fabelmans” and dark comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” won big at the Golden Globes. “Banshees” and genre-bending sci-fi film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” led the way with five nominations each.
Both are nominated for outstanding cast in a motion picture – the equivalent of best picture at the Academy Awards – at the 29th SAG Awards, which will be broadcast live on Netflix’s YouTube Channel (8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST) before the show moves to the streaming service in 2024. “Fabelmans,” “Women Talking,” and the Hollywood epic “Babylon” are also up for the guild’s top prize.
Most actors and films nominated for SAG Awards will also be nominated for Oscars.
Here are the nominees for this year’s SAG Awards, an important forerunner for the Oscars because actors make up the majority of the Academy’s voting body:
The ensembles “Fabelmans,” “Banshees,” and “Everything Everywhere” compete for best.
Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, and Brendan Fraser are among the nominees for best male actor.
Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh lead the pack of best female actors.
Ke Huy Quan and Angela Bassett receive commendations.
In the category of supporting male actor, Quan (“Everything, Everything”) continued his Cinderella comeback, which included a Globes win, as did “Banshees” stars Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, Paul Dano (“The Fabelmans”) and Eddie Redmayne (“The Good Nurse”).
Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) leads the supporting female actor slate, which also includes “Everything, Everything” co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, Kerry Condon (“Banshees of Inisherin”), and Hong Chau (“Banshees of Inisherin”) (“The Whale”).
