Dolly Parton, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, and Debbie Harry threw the ultimate Hail Mary by performing on one song together.
“Gonna Be You,” the official soundtrack for the upcoming film “80 for Brady,” features all of the legends singing for nearly three minutes to words written by Diane Warren, backed by synth rhythms and piano.
The song and video were released on Friday and feature the singers trading verses while dressed in various bedazzled Tom Brady jerseys (and jersey dresses).
“80 for Brady” premieres on February 3 and stars Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno. The ensemble cast portrays four friends who travel to see their favourite player, Tom Brady, who also appears in the film, compete in the 2017 Super Bowl.
Parton’s new song is just one of several music projects she has planned for the new year. On her 77th birthday, Dolly Parton released a new single, “Don’t Make Me Have to Come Down There,” which she told USA TODAY was inspired by a dream she had in which God stood on a mountaintop and said the phrase like a frustrated parent.
“Rock Star,” Parton’s first rock album, is also set to be released. Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Pink, John Fogerty, Elton John, and a slew of other musical greats will appear on the project.
Parton, on the other hand, does not consider any of her numerous projects to be “work.”
“I’m unemployed,” she admits. “I have a pleasure.”
