A representative for Rihanna confirmed Sunday night that she is expecting her second child with partner A$AP Rocky.
Following her halftime performance, during which Rihanna, the “Umbrella” singer, wore an all-red ensemble, social media was ablaze with speculation that she was pregnant once more.
During the performance, Rihanna cradled her stomach, seemingly to show off her baby bump.
Rihanna’s name and the word “pregnant” both trended on Twitter on Sunday.
In May, she gave birth to her first child.
Rihanna was asked if she had any surprises planned for the halftime show in an interview with CBS’s Nate Burleson ahead of her performance. She replied: “I’m considering bringing someone. I don’t know, but we’ll see.”
Rihanna also revealed to Apple Music that she agreed to do the halftime show while three months pregnant with her first child. She attributed her willingness to say “yes” to motherhood.
“When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world — you can do anything. And the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world,” she said, adding that while it was a terrifying prospect, she found the challenge “exhilarating.”
Social media users praised the halftime show performance.
She performed many of her hits in a 12-minute set, including “We Found Love,” “Where Have You Been,” “Diamonds,” and “Work.” She even took a moment to show her support for her makeup brand, Fenty Beauty, by powdering her face with a compact.
She did not bring in any special guests or perform any new songs, as had been speculated.
In terms of a new album, Rihanna joked at a Super Bowl press conference about making her fans wait for new music. But she admitted that the next chapter would be different from previous ones.
“I’m feeling open musically,” Rihanna said. “I’m feeling open to exploring, discovering, creating things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird. It’s possible that my fans, those who are familiar with the music I’ve released, will never understand. I just want to have fun. I want to have a good time. “I want to have a good time with music.”
