Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 smartphones feature faster processors and improved cameras.

Samsung officially unveiled its latest Galaxy smartphone lineup on Wednesday, and the tech giant met all of the expected numbers and specifications.

What about the cost? The new Galaxy S23 line is priced the same as the current Galaxy S22 line and will be available for preorder on February 17 through various retailers and carriers.

The 6.1-inch Galaxy S23 with 128GB of storage starts at $799.99. (you can also get 256GB). The 6.6-inch Galaxy S23+ starts at $999.99 with 256GB (a 512GB option is available). The top-tier 6.8-inch S23 Ultra starts at $1,199.99. (256GB; you can get up to 1 terabyte).

A better camera? Check. The S23 and S23+ models have improved 12MP front selfie cameras, while the S23 Ultra has a massive 200-megapixel sensor for higher-resolution shots and better low-light images. That’s nearly double the capacity of the 108MP sensor on the S22 Ultra.

A more powerful battery? Check. The batteries in the S23 and S23+ are slightly larger, while the S23 Ultra is the same size but has longer battery life due to the improved processor.

Power? According to Samsung, all of the new S23 devices use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which completes processes about 30% faster than the Galaxy S22 series. Graphics processing is also improved by 41%.

Displays? Each has a more durable Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 display.

Why should I buy a new Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone?

The S23 Ultra’s new larger low-light 200MP sensor and Nightography capabilities will appeal to smartphone camera enthusiasts. In addition, the new phone will include Adobe’s Lightroom editing software, which handles even uncompressed RAW photo files, giving smartphone users the ability to create professional-level imagery.

“Enormous camera sensors necessitate additional software and silicon to produce good results,” said Techsponential analyst Avi Greengart. “Samsung’s camera system on the Galaxy S23 Ultra is extremely versatile, thanks to its extensive zoom options.”

According to David McQueen, research director at ABI Research, the improved processing capabilities will help Samsung phones stand out. “While the move will provide unparalleled performance, power, and advanced AI improvements, the expected speed increase will also give Samsung a clear, early lead among competing Android smartphones in 2023,” he wrote in a research note.

Those who pre-order an S23 smartphone will receive a free storage upgrade; those who pre-order and purchase on Samsung.com will also receive a $100 Samsung Ccredit.

What colours are available for the new Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones?

The new Galaxy S23 smartphones come in Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender colours. Customers who shop at Samsung.com can also choose from four other colours: lime, graphite, sky blue, and red.

What exactly is the price of the new Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone?
Consumers may be able to obtain discounts. That’s because, according to preliminary data from research firm IDC, smartphone shipments will fall by about 18% starting in 2021.

“What (Q4 2022) tells us is that rising inflation and growing macro concerns continue to stifle consumer spending even more than expected, pushing any possible recovery to the very end of 2023,” IDC’s Nabila Popal said in a report last week.

According to IDC, Samsung is the global leader in smartphones, with a 21.6% market share in 2022, up from 20% in 2021. Apple holds about 19%, up from 17% in 2021.

“It is undoubtedly a difficult economic environment in which to sell premium devices, but the new Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are all priced the same as last year, despite inflation,” Greengart said. “In the United States, carriers will do everything they can to mitigate the cost with deep discounts and effectively free financing.”
