Woody Woodpecker, farewell. Curious George, take care of yourself.
This month, Universal Orlando Resort will close several attractions geared toward young children at Universal Studios Florida. Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, Fievel’s Playland, DreamWorks Destination, and Donkey’s Meet & Greet will close on January 16 to make way for “exciting new family entertainment… that will immerse guests in the adventures of beloved animated characters,” the Florida resort announced in November on social media. The last day of business will be January 15.
Almost all of the impacted attractions are located in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone and are themed after older cartoons. In contrast, the play area at Universal Studios Hollywood, Super Silly Fun Land, is themed after the Minions.
The nearby E.T. Adventure, Animal Actors on Location!, SpongeBob Squarepants store and meet and greet, and KidZone Pizza Company will all remain open.
Families looking for other places for their children to run around can visit Seuss Landing, Toon Lagoon, and Jurassic Park at neighbouring Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Both parks have a plethora of family-friendly attractions.
